ArMen Race 2026: a strong performance to build momentum
From 14 to 17 May, Mikael Mergui competed in the ArMen Race, one of the key events in the offshore racing calendar, starting from La Trinité-sur-Mer.
The race featured an approximately 300-nautical-mile course, combining coastal and offshore sailing, with demanding passages around the Ar-Men lighthouse, Belle-Île and Île d’Yeu before returning to La Trinité-sur-Mer.
A demanding “pseudo-solo” setup
For this race, Mikael made a deliberate choice: to sail in a “pseudo-solo” configuration.
With Cyril on board — supporting analysis, filming and post-race debriefing — Mikael handled all sailing operations himself. This format allowed him to replicate, as closely as possible, the conditions of solo racing.
A highly demanding setup, requiring full responsibility for manoeuvres, strategy and boat management.
A solid 5th-place finish
Competing against a strong and diverse fleet, Mikael secured an impressive 5th place, after a fast-paced race that included at least one night at sea and continuous tactical decision-making.
A promising result in a competitive environment, confirming the progress made and the strength of the ongoing preparation.
A key milestone in the season
Beyond the ranking, the ArMen Race marked an important step in the season:
refining settings, building consistency and strengthening the ability to perform under real racing conditions.
All essential elements as Mikael continues to prepare for the major upcoming Class40 events.
Another milestone achieved under demanding conditions — fully reflecting the performance, precision and anticipation that drive both Mikael and Hirsch. Well done!
